CREW-Miami Annual President’s Breakfast – Event Wrap-up

The President’s Breakfast, a CREW-Miami members-only event, has become a cherished tradition. The lively gathering on December 10, 2016, included board members, committee chairs, and new and continuing members. Linda Adler of Carlton Fields, who chairs CREW’s strategic planning committee, welcomed guests to her firm’s offices. Chapter President Cristina Lumpkin (Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP) opened the program with deep thanks to the members for honoring her with a challenging yet rewarding year. She noted that the membership was a strong 275 as of the board’s last meeting.

Cristina thanked the programs committee for providing dynamic programs that highlighted important issues. These include the science behind sea level rise, challenges inherent in developing affordable housing, the importance of gender diversity in the workplace, how industry professional are responding to the changing market, and other timely topics. She recognized Aniella Gonzalez’s work on revising the bylaws, and thanked Lyan Fernandez and Linda Adler for their continuing attention to updating the chapter’s strategic plan to ensure continued focus and success.

Of the 22 CREW-Miami members who attended the 2016 Network convention in New York City, five were supported by scholarships. Cristina thanked Cristina Mas for heading the convention scholarship committee. Andrea Vigil received kudos for overseeing successful signature events — the Spring Connections at TotalBank, the fishing tournament, and Fall Connections held this year at  MDC’s Freedom Tower. Funds generated by the latter two events funded the five scholarships awarded to women pursuing studies in commercial real estate fields, and a substantial donation will be made to The Women’s Fund of Miami Dade. Cristina introduced 2017 President Kimberly Ginsburg, whose leadership she looks forward to supporting from the vantage point of Immediate Past President.

Strong programs with a focus on personal and professional development will be Kimberly’s theme. “Pay it forward” is Kimberly’s maxim as she encourages CREW members to focus on achieving and maintaining their A games by capitalizing on the benefits of networking. Goals for her term include working to complete the website update, incorporating best practices into the strategic plan, and continuing the amazing array of member-to-member events.

As the CREW members present introduced themselves and described their goals, it was clear that participation on one or more CREW committees is the most effective route to personal and professional fulfillment.
